Birth Control

So tonight is New Years Eve and some may participate in to many adult beverages and do something foolish. If this could be you, watch the following video it will snap you back to reality. This little episode went on for 45 minutes, from the car, to the kitchen and up to Boy 2's bedroom all because he couldn't get a lollipop at daycare. Aunt Monica was supposed to stop by to deliver gifts from my sister that night. When I finally got home 30 minutes into this Carey simply said "I don't want to see anyone tonight" Understood!

Douglass Family Christmas Party

The Douglass family party was at Aunt Debbies house this year. As usual there was all of the good food at a party.............you know, finger rolls. Though something new this year was a 5lb Hershey's chocolate bar I brought. I won it as a concellation prize after buying one of those FDA donations at a Big Apple. There was no real way to cut this thing up. Jason ended-up out on the deck dropping it from waist high just to get it to break-up.
For all of the Douglass great grandsons this was the year of the remote control car/truck. All four boys had mulitple cars racing around, it was hard work trying to pay attention to the what gifts were being opened in the Yankee Swap and making sure your child wasnt the one responsible for causing someone to blow out a knee or hip.

I was so proud of the work I put into my gift for the swap. I took a roll of toilet paper and put a picture of the Grinch on the outside that said if you want your gift you need to start unrolling. Every 10 feet or so I put a little smart ass comment inside the TP. Finally after about 40 feet worth of unrolling they got to their gift........$25 of scratch tickets (There were also 3 nip bottles inside the original box) It was great watching Tony (My cousin Maries husband) work for his gift. The gift was taken from him which turned out to backfire......all of the tickets were losers!

Candy Cane Train

We went on the Candy Cane Train from Bath to Wiscasset. It is set to emulate the movie Polar Express. Once the train gets moving Santa's Elves (local high school cheerleaders) ask if any of the kids would like to go to the front of the car to listen to story time. Refreshments (Juice and x-mas cookies) are offered, a barber shop quartet sings Christmas songs, a stop in Wiscasset where the elves get off the train and cheer and then the big man shows-up and sits with each child at their seat and asks what they want for Christmas. Sounds like a great time to me if I was a kid. Well you wouldn't know it by the reaction of our to little darlings. They were very unimpressed and grumpy. We now fully believe they are just like Carey and my fathers. Bah Humbug!!

Brotherly Love

The other night Boy 1 agreed to run around in his underwear so that Boy 2 would want to do it also. This makes it easier during potty training for Boy 2 to run to the bathroom every 10 minutes or so and try to go potty. The one drawback is anytime we do this they seem to get very hyper, run, scream and wrestle.

Boy 1 is still stronger so Boy 2 takes the brunt of the attack, but it is getting closer. Luckily when it ends they still end up as buddies............pretty much.

Foolish Little Boys

You never know what these two little monkeys may be doing from 1 minute to the next. Boy 1 and Boy 2 each got a dress-up costume at daycare for one of the kids birthdays a few weeks ago. Boy 2 got a tiger costume with mask, tail and bow tie. Though he doesn't really wear it, Boy 1 loves it prancing, climbing and meowing all around the house.

On Thanksgiving, Boy 2 wanted to help with anything he could, so he was handing me potato's from the bag so I could peel them and then sometimes taking the peeled ones and placing them back in the bag. As you can see he was particularly impressed with my use of a peeler. The next day we got some sleet that the boys were convinced was snow..........but that didn't keep them from using a lawn mower.

Halloween 2010 (Catch-Up)

We went and got our pumpkins from Rocky Ridge Orchards in Bowdoin. They have a big swing in the barn (this sounds like last year) and some decorations around the pumpkin yard that the boys liked. Though the real reason we get our pumpkins here rather than the hundreds of other roadside place is because the fresh donuts and pastries.

Prior to carving the pumpkins Boy 1 was very brash talking how he was going to clean the guts out of the pumpkin. Oh, the courage quickly disappeared. Boy 2 showed him up from the beginning just digging in that still didn't change the mind of Boy 1, he wasn't touching the guts.

Since probably mid-September Boy 1 said he wanted to be a race car driver. Funny thing we don't watch any racing. Well, other than Handy Manny's Big Race. His was an easy find, Carey found the costume in the Nascar store for $10.00 with free shipping and handling..............SCORE!! Boy 2 on the other hand was supposed to be Elmo, we thought no problem he loves Elmo. He would not put on that costume for anything. We had a fall back costume of Thomas the Train. Still, he would not put it on. Well that quickly changed when Aunt Darcy stopped by with treats and he saw Boy 1 got candy when he put his costume on and said "Trick or Treat"! He was in a skid to get the costume on from that point and we had not trouble the rest of the night.

Fastest Elevator in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont

Yesterday we went for a little ride to go to the Waldo Hancock Bridge and Fort Knox in Prospect just outside of Bucksport. The bridge is only 1 of 3 in the world that has an observation tower at the top. (Now remember the following numbers) The observation deck is 442 feet in the air, it gives you a 360 degree view of the area. The elevator to get to the top is the fastest in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, it rises 5oo feet per minute. Stick with me, these numbers will mean things soon. So to go up 442 feet it only takes 50 seconds. Once at the top you have to climb 2 more flights of stairs to get to the observation deck. You can see surrounding towns and mountains (Saddleback) and the coast. We thought we may see more foliage, but we were probably a week or so to early.

We stayed in the observation deck for about 2o minutes Boy 1 and Boy 2 had about all they could handle. Here come the numbers, do you remember them? We walked back down the 2 flights of stairs to get to the elevator. Stop, we only made it 1.5 flights, the line at the elevator was backed-up. Then after about 3 minutes we hear this voice down below. "The elevator is broken, it should only be a few minutes and then we should have it going again". Oh yeah, did I mention this is a state run park and building? Now we are in a stair well with lines of people behind us and in front of us. So now we are trying to enterain the boys, good thing there were still some windows to look out. Here comes that voice again. "We are still trying to fix the elevator, but we may have to walk down the emergency stairwell" (442 feet=44 stories with 2 children). Remember, we still had some small windows to look out, look there's 2 guys walking down the road of the bridge. Look a firetruck. Look another fire truck. Oh here comes an ambulance.

The voice, "Does everyone here feel they can walk down the stairs?" "Sir, would it be easier for you and your wife to be in front with the kids or in the back of the line or are you fine in the middle?" Look another rescue vehicle coming. The voice again, "This is the 2nd time today we had to walk everyone down." They didnt mention that when they took our money!!

Well the good news is was we only had to walk to the road not the ground, the bad news our legs were jelly when we finally made it to the fort to walk around. There we were met by fireman and firetrucks that would take us back to the parking lot. This was great for the kids. They rode in the back of a heavy rescue truck. Oh yeah, did you notice I had no stats on how fast the elevator went back down.

Yes..........I hear you guys

Ok I know I've been very bad at keeping-up. I have been hearing it from alot of people. I have decided to simply add some pics to try to catch-up and then I can start fresh with some of my insightful humor. I will keep adding pics over the next few days.

Little Swimmers

The boys have come a long way this summer learning to swim. Boy 1 has taken 1 set of swimming lessons this past winter and Boy 2 hasn't done any. I think after this summer we will get the both of them into lessons this fall and winter. Boy 1 should be ready to take off all swimmies after the next set of lessons and Boy 2 won't be far behind next year.

Pressed Ham

Boy 2 thought he was so funny the other day running around with no diaper and then decided to participate in his first mooning...........out the front window. Those are some pretty cute cheeks though.

Hampster Wheel

During Heritage Days in Bath there was a ride where anyone under 200lbs (not me) could get inside a rubber ball that was inflated with a leaf blower and could run around in a pool of water for $8. As soon as Boy 1 saw this he had to do it.........and we just had to see it.

You Better Hope the Cops Get You First

So we purchased a pool for the boys late last fall and put it up this spring. At this point there are not many pictures of the boys in it, well because it has been slashed by someone 2 times and attempted a 3rd.
The first cuts we thought were done by the lawn mower or Boy1 and Boy 2, but 4 days later there were more cuts, one being about 18" long. We found a broken black plastic pocket comb in the yard. This appears to be the weapon. So we proceeded to place trail cameras around the pool and property. This past Thursday night the flash of one of the cameras went off and I went out to check the yard, finding anything or anyone. I never checked the camera until the next day, we found a picture of the kid attempting to cut the pool a third time. Below his a picture from the camera.
This kid has a hugh set of nuts!! In the photo above he is about 10 feet from our living room, where the windows and shades were open.............with me sitting on the couch.

Rainy Lobster Cook Out

Today we went to Uncle Rodney's for my gram and gramp's 60th Wedding Anniversary. We had lobsters and clams and for those who don't eat the fine delicacies they had typical BBQ foods. Hot Dogs, burgers and chicken. It is amazing to me how many people don't eat lobster and clams! There was 40 lobsters and countless clams, certainly more than enough. The lobster were hard shelled (very hard, my dad broke a cracker attempting to get into one)

Everything was moved inside the garage due to weather and there were a couple tents on the deck to cook. The rain stopped for about an hour while everyone ate and then the sky opened up again. Considering how bad the weather was it went off very well.

Before we went we decided to bring extra clothes and dress the boys in rain coats and mud boots. There no sense in trying to stop them from going outside to play, just change them as needed. There were plenty of fun things to do outside, rockets and balloons. Oh yeah and a very cool mini-truck to drive.

We always knew Boy 1 is just a pip-squeak, but this proves it. Max and Jackson (Blue jacket on the right, my cousin Maries son) are only 4 months apart in age. Now Jackson is pretty tall for 4 years old, but not that tall. Max better learn to run fast if he gets lippy in school.

This rocket thing was pretty cool, I can see one being bought very soon for our house. You jump on the yellow pump and it shoots a nerf rocket into the air. Max could only send it about 10 feet into the air but Elliot had the technique down and could send it a good 30 feet up.

The boys out for a joy ride, tuning the radio....not watching the road. The thing has a real AM/FM radio

Memorial Day Weekend

Friday night we went to Gardiner to watch fireworks and what an awesome show they put on. Unfortunatley Carey ended-up watching them from the Car. Boy 2 was not a fan of the booms. The show lasted 25 minutes and there was never less than 3 shells in the air at once.

Sunday we took a little drive to Kennebunkport, kinda to check out all of the places we remembered from the puzzle we assembled last year on vacation. That puzzle came in quite handy, even
before we got into town we had decided where we would eat. Federal Jack's Brewery was a big piece of the puzzle, so that was our choice. We went to the beach to play after supper, even though the water was 54 degrees the boys would not come out once their legs went numb.

Monday was the Memorial Day parade. Kinda the same old stuff, but this was probably the last time Navy personnel would march in the parade. By this time next year the base will be completely closed.

Later in the afternoon Carey and the boys planted Pumpkin seeds so that we can plant them in our garden shortly.

And I don't care that he looks like me, has my sleeping habits and is always attached to my leg.....Boy 2 cannot be mine! No offspring of mine would look grouchy having their face covered in powdered sugar at 8:30 a.m.!!!
